Students' Comments

"She loves spanish linguistics
and it shows."
"She was very supportive which
I appreciated very much."
"She made a great effort to help us step out of our comfort zones such as through oral presentations and class discussions. Because of the friendly environment she created in the class it helped me be more eager to share my opinions in class. She also paired us with different classmates whenever we did group work to create a sense of community in the class. A topic heavily discussed in the class was what our hispanic identity meant to us. She helped us understand that we could decide what it meant to us and our level of fluency did not determine this.”
"The professor's ability to make
the class inclusive, and stress
(by science) that there's no "perfect" or "superior" language, makes
the class environment comfortable for students."
"This course reinforces the critical
thinking skills of the students. We give our opinions about controversial topics, while we sustain them with facts. This skill will be
helpful in my future career."
"Daniela is so nice and such a great professor! She is so enthusiastic and you can tell she really cares about her students. She is very understanding and is always willing to work with students on assignments and deadlines, and I think I speak for all of us when I say it makes the students feel very comfortable in the class and cared for beyond the stress of perfect grades and performance."
"I have learned so much about Latin America and its history, as well as deepened my vocabulary in Spanish. This class was very helpful for me to gain confidence speaking in Spanish and I found it to be a very valuable learning experience."
"Amazing energy and super enthusiastic."
"Daniela was very helpful in explaining grammatical topics and exposing us to other Spanish accents and cultures to improve our comprehension of our heritage language."
"She is very enthusiastic and funny. She keeps the class in a positive environment, and she gives us feedback slips if there is something we don't understand, so she can go over it with us in class. Furthermore, she also shows us clips and educational videos in Spanish. She makes class fun and does activities that enable us to interact with each other. She also gives us work, so we can have flexible schedules."
"She's a wonderful instructor
that cares about her student's learning
and experience in the course."
“Daniela made the class feel like home. We had assignments that helped us practice our verbal and written Spanish skills. But more importantly, she created a community within the members of the class so we could interact with other students that came from a similar background."
"She wanted to make sure we truly understood and engaged with the content; this was very helpful"
“Instructor Daniela was enthusiastic about the content material, and was flexible throughout the semester. Her passion in having us learn
as students and teaching us on topics that could be applied outside of the classroom made the course an incredibly valuable and intriguing one.”
"Besides more writing feedback, I would say Professor Daniela's instruction and care towards the course was the best one out of all my other classes, and my time spent here was worthwhile."
"I learned what being hispanic means and how ti ties into my identity. This is an issue for many hispanic Americans because it is difficult to know where we fit in. Daniela did a great job of addressing this and giving us confidence in speaking Spanish which most Spanish teachers do not do. Because of this, I can apply my Spanish skills in my future professions and career."
"The ability of Professor Daniela to convey her understanding of the impact of Spanish in the Community and relationship is powerful. She is a strong oral presenter that can grip the attention at all times and finds interactive and interesting material to cover."
"The instructor's strengths would be the fact that she puts the objective of learning at a higher level of importance than the grade itself. While grades are important, her ability to ease the stress of students fixated on grades by redirecting them to focus on learning the content makes her a phenomenal professor. One of her other teaching strengths is that she is very flexible and understanding of student's needs and circumstances whether it be that they cannot finish an assignment or need more time to study for a test, she managed to accommodate her students."
"She was very flexible and compassionate with her students, which I admired. Going to a large university, I was scared that I would never have the opportunity to have a relationship with any of my professors or have a chance to communicate with them. However, Professor Stransky had a small class where she knew all her students' names, and cared about the lives of her students. She was also patient with us in our communication in Spanish, and pushed us to challenge ourselves in our Hispanic heritage and Spanish language abilities."
"Passionate, relatable. friendly, kind, flexible."
"She is very enthusiastic about our education and makes sure that the students understand the content before moving on."
